If you have any extra time, even an hour or two, we would love your help! If you have any questions at all, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To volunteer, you can contact the volunteer coordinator, or you can sign up directly at pt-avenue: Go to http://www.pt-avenue.com, Login using the code PoulsboPTSA, and click Volunteer. This will generate a drop-down list. Select an event and click Show Volunteer Needs. This will provide a detailed description of the event and volunteer needs.
Please note that all volunteers who will be present at events with students need to complete a Volunteer Application Form. These can be picked up in the school office, and can take several weeks to process so please plan ahead!
More details can be found at pt-avenue, but here’s a summary of our 2018/2019 needs:
Family Fun Nights – 11/16, 1/16, 2/6, 3/13, 4/17, 5/15. Family Fun Nights are fun evening activities for the whole family, sprinkled throughout the year. Examples include School Dances, Turkey Bingo, & Movie Nights. Volunteers needed to set up, sell concessions, and clean up.
Teacher Appreciation – 10/24, 11/19, 12/17, 1/22, 2/14, 4/23, 5/6. The PTSA honors the PES staff with a monthly staff appreciation ‘event’ – often lunch or breakfast. Committee members assist with food prep/donations, set up, and clean up. This is a great way to help out if you don’t have much time, because a large amount of food donations are always needed! Volunteers are welcome to help as many months as they are able.
Yearbook – All year (especially Spring). We still need a coordinator for this important event! Do you have a knack for photography or graphic design? Volunteers needed to help take pictures, sell yearbooks & work with our coordinator to create the annual yearbook.
Hearing/Vision Test Day – Oct 4, 5. Volunteers are trained to use equipment to test and record each child’s results. We also need hall monitors and runners to get students to/from the testing area.
School Picture Day – Oct 16. Volunteers help PES staff line up kids & act as classroom ‘runners’ for the photographers.
Monster Mash/Fall Festival – Oct 20. Our largest Family Fun Night of the year, Monster Mash (formerly Fall Festival) is a beloved tradition at PES! Families enjoy spooky indoor & outdoor activities, play games, & win prizes. Volunteers needed to help set up, run carnival-type games in half hour shifts, & clean up afterward.
Auction – Nov 2. One of two main fundraisers, this is a FUN adults-only evening. Friends, family, and community members are invited to attend! Volunteers needed for procurement, ticket sales, set up, check in/out, & clean up. Regular Auction Committee meetings will be held in the fall leading up to the event.
Holiday Shoppe – Dec. Holiday “shopping” event for kids to purchase gifts for family members at low or no-cost. Volunteers needed to help set up, assist younger kids in choosing items, & wrapping gifts. Event runs 4-5 days in the PTSA Portable during school hrs. We’re still in need of an event coordinator for this event so it can happen! The kids love it.
Book Fairs – Dec 10-14 and May 6-10. Volunteers are needed in half-day shifts to assist with set up & check out, to help children with their selections, and to help keep the space tidy.
PTSA Financial Review – Dec & July. Volunteers are needed to review the PTSA’s financial records to make sure everything is in order. The financial review committee meets twice a year for approximately 2-3 hours.
Catch a Kid Reading – Feb 25- Mar 1. Volunteers needed to call kids who sign up to participate at home and ‘catch’ them reading!
Shoe Box Lunch – Mar 27. Volunteers create individual lunches for one or more staff members based on completed “Lunch Surveys.” Lunches can be homemade or store bought. Creativity is encouraged!
Walk/Jog-a-thon – Apr 26. One of our 2 main fundraisers, this is a fun and energetic event in which PES kids (and staff!) run or walk around Strawberry Field in order to raise money (and win prizes). Many hands are needed to work before, during & after this event. Regular volunteer committee meetings are held beginning in January.
PTSA Nominating Committee – Spring. Nominating Committee members search out people to be on next year’s PTSA board. It is recommended you are familiar with the various positions. The board will ask that you announce your recommendations at a spring PTSA meeting when they do elections.
